Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

The BRUTALIST: ADRIAN BRODY IS AMAZING, CONCLAVE. I'M STILL ALIVE 306c2y

I spoke with David Ansen from the PSIFF and he said "The Brutalist" and Adrian Brody were amazing.  He had just returned from London where he saw three plays, one with John Lithgow, who arrived on the red carpet for the award show gala with Ralph Fiennes, and Isabella Rossellini who lives in Rome.  When asked about all the fine restaurants in Rome, she said Stanley Tucci who was also present for the magnificent film “Conclave,” knew more.  Isabella looked radiant and said that in her role as the nun, she projected a silent power.   Most of the other actresses on the red carpet were kindly g autographs and taking selfies, as was Timothee Chalamet once out of his limosene, rushing over to the crowd, before rushing into the ballroom. He looked like his character “Bob Dylan,” he has so embodied that role.

Last night, at the Golden Globes, "Conclave," won a Best Writing Award.  Best Actor went to Adrian Brody, and like Adrian, Demi Moore won her first Globe, first Award ever. She was ready to give up acting when the script for "Substance," came along, and she and the film got some love in Cannes as well. The surprise of the night was the award for Fernada Torres in, Walter Salles, "I'm Still Here."  A title many of us can relate to.  You can see the film in Palm Springs today at 5pm, and at 1:30 lon Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1:30. The  director Walter Salles will be part of a free today at the Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs.

Lead programmer David Ansen also highly recommended this film along with  many other documentaries on Liza, Bill Mackie and Billie Preston, to name a few..The festival continues through January 13th.  This is a great opportunity to watch some of the 158 films from around the world on a big screen.
